Simplicity's Philosophy

The Philosophy of Simplicity Vacuums
The Simplicity philosophy centers upon performance and value. It's these two principles that challenge us to build superior cleaning products and to offer years of worry-free satisfaction. By conquering these challenges, we reap the benefits of positive word-of-mouth advertising that help grow our business. This straightforward strategy disciplines us never to stray from our focus on quality and customer satisfaction.

When reading the section "Choosing a Vacuum", you may have noticed that with most features, there is always some trade-off--bagless vs. non-bagless, clean air vs. dirty air, HEPA vs. electrostatic, plastic vs. metal machines and so on. These trade-offs create a lot of confusion for vacuum cleaner buyers. We hope you find our Buyers Guide helpful in the process of making a decision which vacuum cleaner is right for you.

Now that we've taken time to talk about vacuum cleaners in general, lets turn our attention to why a Simplicity vacuum cleaner can be an excellent choice for your home.

Lasting Value
In contrast to the disposable vacuum cleaners found at a discount superstore, Simplicity believes your money is better spent on a quality product that's affordable. All design work, engineering, construction, and materials center around the principle of building a high performing machine built for years of durable use. This is where Simplicity offers value not seen in other vacuums.

The reason Simplicity Vacuums are not considered "disposable vacuums" is because of the great care we take in designing and constructing our machines. Our desire has never been to build a low cost, low quality machine for the discount store. There are too many other manufacturers who specialize in that. Plus, as we learned earlier, there is a growing demand from consumers seeking better quality, longer lasting machines. Simplicity caters to consumers looking to save money over time by buying right the first time. The phrase "you get what you pay for" is so true in the vacuum cleaner market.

Our devotion to build a better longer lasting vacuum cleaner has resulted in one system we call DuraTech Design. DuraTech is a design system that focuses solely on the goal of building a longer lasting vacuum cleaner. This feature is available on all 7 Series uprights.

DuraTech begins with a "clean air" vacuum that filters damaging dirt and debris before reaching the motor and motor fan. DuraTech then uses separate components that are designed to be replaceable, allowing the customer to replace components instead of replacing a more expensive part or the entire unit. Then, the most durable materials are used, depending on the purpose of a particular component. For example, steel is used to protect the critical wear areas of a vacuum (brushroll, bottom plate, pivot points, handle). Finally, safeguards are set in place to protect the Simplicity while in use, including a full bag indicator light and reset-able circuit breaker which protects the high performance motor against a clogged machine or broken vacuum bag.

Over time, all vacuums wear down or break down to some degree. Then a buyer has to choose between throwing a vacuum away or simply replacing a low cost component. Simplicity vacuum cleaners offer a superior warranty. You'll find a four-year warranty on the premium 7 Series . It's not luck that makes our vacuums last longer--it's our determination.

Superior Filtration
There are many reasons why consumers are demanding a cleaner home environment: minimize allergic reactions to the occupants, combat poor indoor air quality, or enjoy an aesthetically cleaner home. Vacuum cleaners with high efficiency filtration systems are an effective tool to improve indoor air quality and maintain a cleaner home environment. With regards to choosing vacuums with or without HEPA filters, our belief is this: First and foremost, vacuum cleaners are carpet and floor cleaners. Utilizing filter technology that would jeopardize cleaning performance would go against the purpose of using a vacuum cleaner. Simplicity's filtration solution combines both high airflow performance and high filtration technology. It's what we call AST (Allergen Suppression Technology) and the cornerstone of AST is Filtrete™ electrostatic media by 3M.

Each Simplicity canister and upright offers a high efficiency electrostatic twin-ply filter bag which removes fully 99% of dirt and fine particles. The air then flows through a pre-filter before the motor and fan, then a filter after the motor and fan. Finally, air is filtered a last time by a super-efficient electrostatic post filter like Filtrete. This series of filtering stages returns clean air to your home.

How does electrostatic filter media rate against HEPA filter media? According to Consumer Reports, both filtering medias are given the highest rating of "excellent."

The advantage of electrostatic media, like Filtrete™, is the higher airflow rate allowed and lower cost. It's the perfect filtration solution.

Note: 3M, maker of Filtrete™, is a partner with the American Lung Association in support of the American Lung Association Health House program.

Exceptional Clean-ability
Some vacuum cleaner brands base their cleaning claims solely on suction, others on airflow, and others claim HEPA to tout cleaning performance. At Simplicity, it's a well thought out combination of components that leads to maximum cleaning performance.

The first step in cleaning is agitating the carpet to help loosen deep down dirt. This is why a key feature of a Simplicity is the steel, 4-ball bearing brushroll, which features replaceable strips. On the 7 Series, the brushroll is housed in a cylindrical housing to minimize air turbulence. This greatly improves airflow. The majority of Simplicity uprights offer either a single fan or twin fan high performance 12 amp motor offering strong suction and maximum airflow. The first process in cleaning is getting dirt (and air) into the vacuum. Once inside, the second stage of cleaning is keeping dirt in.

As stated earlier, most Simplicity uprights offer the electrostatic filtering media Filtrete™ by 3M. Filtrete™ combines high airflow along with excellent filtration media. In other words, it allows the vacuum cleaner to pick up more dirt because of high airflow and its ability to keep dirt in the vacuum. This technology works so well that Simplicity uses the same electrostatic filtering media in vacuum bags.

Each Simplicity upright and canister offers an exclusive bag featuring a twin-ply electrostatic liner. This liner performs six times better than a standard bag! As you may know, Simplicity's are 'clean air' machines. This means that dirt and debris get filtered out of the airflow before they reach the motor and fan.

Dirt and debris are filtered by the electrostatically-lined bag, thereby sending clean air through the motor fan. As the airflow exits the machine, that's where the final Filtrete™ filter removes virtually all remaining fine particles.

Note: Simplicity does not offer any bagless upright vacuum cleaners. (Please consult our Choosing a Vacuum section and see "Bagless vs. Non-bagless"). Most consumers buy these machines thinking of the benefit of never buying bags again. The problem with bagless vacuums is the technology: Bagless vacuums are inherently poor cleaning machines thus requiring every bagless vacuum to use additional filters. Remember, the filters must be replaced 1-2 times per year at a cost ranging from $20 to $60 a filter.

Conclusion
Vacuuming is a simple concept—getting dirt and air in the machine, then keeping dirt inside the machine.

It sounds simple, but there is a lengthy list of features Simplicity analyzes and offers to maximize cleaning performance. It's a process that never stops while we continue the quest to build the best performing vacuum on the market.
